Best beaches for a flying dress photoshoot in Marbella Spain

With so many locations around the world, it’s often difficult to choose where to do a flying dress photoshoot. I completely understand that, and I know why.

From my personal photographer’s experience, I’ve done flying dress photoshoot in Spain and in many other places around the world. I’ve done flying dress photoshoots in Cancun, Mexico, multiple times in the USA (including Miami and Alpharetta, GA, where I lived for four years), and once in Costa Rica.

Every destination offers something different visually and emotionally. Cancun brings the turquoise Caribbean Sea and tropical light. Alpharetta offers lush greenery, parks, and even waterfalls. Costa Rica is defined by the intensity and richness of the rainforest.

But there is one location in Europe that, in my experience, brings together many of these qualities in one place, and that is Spain, especially the Costa del Sol region.

In this article, I will share the best beaches for a flying dress photoshoot in Marbella, as Marbella is where I currently live and where I know the coastline best. This is not generic travel content or AI-generated suggestions, it is based on my personal experience living here in Marbella, Spain.

Why location matters in a flying dress photoshoot

From almost a decade of doing flying dress photoshoots, I’ve learned that many women choose this experience for a special occasion: birthday, celebration, engagement, or simply as a personal moment of empowerment.

The flying dress itself is long, dramatic, and flowing. It creates a strong visual movement, but also an emotional feeling of freedom, confidence, and presence.

That is why the location becomes part of the emotion. A good one should enhance that feeling, not compete with it.

Marbella as a flying dress photoshoot destination

Marbella is one of the most popular travel destinations in Europe. It is located on the Costa del Sol, between Malaga and Estepona, not far from the Rock of Gibraltar.

What makes Marbella especially interesting for photography is its combination of different visual elements in one area:

  • luxury five-star hotels and boutique stays
  • historic old town streets
  • diverse food culture and local markets
  • vibrant nightlife
  • and most importantly, beautiful beaches

This combination makes Marbella an ideal destination for a flying dress photoshoot in Spain, especially because everything is close and accessible.

The beaches here have a warm, Mediterranean atmosphere that works beautifully with flowing fabric. Soft light, open space, and sea horizon lines create a naturally cinematic look that enhances the dress movement.

Best beaches in Marbella Spain for a flying dress photoshoot

Here is my personal selection of the best beaches for a flying dress photoshoot in Marbella, based on accessibility, scenery, light, and overall visual atmosphere:

Cabopino Beach

One of the most naturally beautiful beaches in the area and often considered among the hidden beaches in Marbella Spain. It has dunes, pine trees, and a more untouched landscape. It feels open, wild, and very photographic, especially during golden hour. This is my favorite beach in Marbella. I remember the first time I saw it, I instantly knew there was something different about it and it was it’s character. It has a perfect balance of greenery and sand dunes. Soft, almost desert-like texture of the dunes, combined with deep green pine trees, which creates a very layered and visually interesting background. It gives you options when taking photos, you can frame wide, minimal shots or create more detailed, textured compositions. For a flying dress photoshoot in Spain, this beach works beautifully because of that variety. The open space allows the dress to move freely, while the natural elements add depth and contrast without feeling overwhelming. It’s one of those locations where the environment does part of the creative work for you.

Playa del Real de Zaragoza

What makes it stand out is that it’s part of the Dunes of Marbella Ecological Reserve. You’ll find natural dunes, native vegetation, and wooden walkways that allow you to move through the area while preserving its landscape.

For a flying dress photoshoot in Spain, this beach works really well because of its open space and softer, less crowded atmosphere. It allows for more freedom of movement, which is important when working with a long, flowing dress.

There are also a few beach clubs nearby, which makes it easy to stop for tapas or a drink after your photoshoot. If Cabopino feels too crowded, this beach is a great alternative, with more space, a calmer setting, and still a beautiful background for photos.

Playa del Real de Zaragoza has a more relaxed and quieter feel compared to some of the more popular beaches in Marbella. It offers a few really nice spots for a photoshoot, especially if you take time to walk and explore.

Playa de las Cañas

Less commercial and more open, with a quieter, natural coastal setting. The beach feels spacious and slightly more raw compared to central Marbella spots. It is ideal if you want minimal distractions and strong focus on movement and fabric flow.

Playa de Nagüeles

Playa de Nagüeles has a more refined and polished atmosphere compared to some of the wilder beaches in Marbella. Located in Marbella’s Golden Mile area, it is surrounded by luxury hotels, elegant beach clubs, and upscale residential areas, which gives it that classic high-end Marbella feel.

It is also located close to places like Puente Romano Marbella and Nobu Hotel Marbella, so the whole area feels visually curated and stylish. Palm trees, clean walkways, and Mediterranean scenery create a very elegant background for photos.

For a photoshoot, especially a flying dress session, this beach works beautifully if you are looking for a luxurious and sophisticated coastal aesthetic rather than a more wild natural landscape.

  • Playa de los Monteros. A quieter and more residential beach with wide sandy areas and soft natural light. It feels less crowded, which makes it easier to create uninterrupted compositions. The background is simple and clean, allowing the flying dress movement to become the main visual focus.
  • Playa de Alicate. This beach has a slightly more local and relaxed atmosphere. It is known for its soft sand and calm water, with a natural coastal look. It works well for softer, more emotional flying dress images with a peaceful Mediterranean mood.

Playa de la Fontanilla

Playa de la Fontanilla is one of the most central and accessible beaches in Marbella, which makes it a practical option for a flying dress photoshoot in Spain. The beach itself has an energetic Marbella atmosphere with promenade life, palm trees, cafés, restaurants, and beach clubs all nearby.

For photography, it works especially well for more lifestyle-oriented flying dress images that combine beach scenery with the feeling of being on vacation in Marbella Spain.

Another detail that adds visual interest to this location is the nearby Arroyo Guadalpín area, where the stream coming down from Sierra Blanca reaches the sea. The greenery around it creates a softer and more layered background, which is great if you are looking for a photoshoot location that combines beach scenery with natural elements in the same spot.

One practical advantage of Playa de la Fontanilla is parking. There are several public parking lots nearby, making access much easier if you are arriving by car. As with many beaches in Marbella, morning is usually the best time for a flying dress photoshoot here. The light feels softer, the beach is less crowded, and the atmosphere is calmer, allowing for more freedom and movement during the photoshoot.

Playa del Cable

Playa del Cable is located close to Marbella’s city center and port area, but compared to beaches like Playa del Faro, Venus, or Fontanilla, it feels noticeably wider and more open.

Because of the extra space, the atmosphere here is often quieter and less dense, especially if you walk a little further along the beach. That openness can work really well for photography, giving more freedom when taking flying dress photos and creating cleaner backgrounds.

It’s also a convenient option if you are staying in Marbella and want a beach that feels a bit calmer without going too far from the city.

Playa la Venus

Playa la Venus is located right next to central Marbella, just a short walk from Playa del Faro. It is compact and very easy to access, and while it can get busy, it often feels slightly more open due to its wider stretch of sand compared to neighboring beaches.

For a flying dress photoshoot in Spain, this beach can work well if you need a very central and convenient location. It offers a mix of sea views and city energy, with Marbella Centro just behind you, which creates a more urban coastal feel rather than a remote natural setting.

In the early morning, before the beach becomes active, it can be a good option for taking photos when the light is soft and there is more space to work. It is also easily reachable on foot or by public transport, which makes it practical for quick photo sessions or multi-location photoshoots in the city center.

Playa del Faro

Playa del Faro is a small, very central beach located right next to Marbella’s old town. It is within walking distance from landmarks like Parque de la Alameda and the historic lighthouse, which makes it one of the most accessible beaches in Marbella Centro. Because of its location, it is usually quite busy, with constant movement and many restaurants and cafés around the area.

For a flying dress photoshoot in Spain, this beach offers a very different energy compared to more open or natural locations. It feels active and alive, with people, movement, and urban rhythm all around you. If you enjoy capturing that sense of daily life and the pulse of the city, it can be an interesting setting.

However, doing a photoshoot here requires more intention. You need to be very deliberate with framing and angles, working carefully with the environment to create clean compositions within a busy space.

Playa de la Bajadilla

Playa de la Bajadilla is a more local, working-style beach located next to Marbella’s fishing port. It has a very authentic, everyday atmosphere, with less of a polished or tourist-focused feel compared to other beaches in Marbella.

For a flying dress photoshoot in Spain, this location brings a very different visual mood. The surroundings are more dynamic, with the port, fishing boats, and harbor activity creating a busier, layered background. It feels less minimal and more documentary in style.

There are also a few restaurants nearby, which makes it easy to take a break between shots. Overall, it’s a good option if you’re looking for something more raw and character-filled, with a stronger sense of real local life in the background.
