My Process for Interior Design Photography

As an interior design photographer, I follow a detailed, step-by-step process to capture the true beauty and essence of every space. Here’s how I work:

Pre-Shoot Preparation

Consulting with the Client: Before the shoot, I take the time to understand the vision, style, and purpose behind the space. Whether it’s for a portfolio, real estate listing, or feature, understanding the goals helps me deliver the best results.
Preparing the Space: I work with the client to ensure the space is styled to perfection, with all furnishings in place and any unnecessary clutter removed.

Lighting & Composition

Using Natural Light: I start by capturing images using the natural light that flows through windows and doors to create an authentic atmosphere.
Adding Supplementary Lighting: If certain areas of the room are too dark, I bring in additional light sources to balance the exposure and emphasize key design details.
Framing the Shot: I experiment with different angles to capture both wide shots that showcase the room’s layout and close-ups that highlight key design elements such as textures and furniture.
Camera and Lenses: I use a wide-angle lens to capture the full scope of a room, especially large spaces. A tripod ensures stability, while avoiding any distortion in my images.
Adjusting White Balance: I ensure the lighting on my photos looks natural and true to the actual colors of the room.

Taking photos

Composing the Image: My goal is to frame each shot in a way that highlights the most important features of the space, whether it’s a beautiful piece of furniture or an architectural detail.
Creating Depth and Layers: I focus on creating depth in my shots by using foreground and background elements to guide the viewer’s eye through the space.

Post-Processing

Editing the Images: Once the shoot is finished, I edit the images in software like Lightroom or Photoshop. This step involves adjusting exposure, contrast, and white balance to bring out the true colors and vibrancy of the space.
Retouching: I make sure to remove any distractions, such as dust or small imperfections, that could detract from the design.

Delivering the Images

File Formats: I provide my clients with high-resolution images in JPEG, suitable for both print and digital use.
